History buffs would be remiss if they didn't make to Heritage Square and explore Phoenix’s largest chunk of history. Heritage Square is the only remaining block from the original town site of Phoenix and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It also stands almost exactly as it did a century ago (with the important addition of air conditioning, among other accouterments).

Unlike many of Phoenix’s historic homes, the 1895 Rosson House escaped being torn down or repurposed for its land. The city took over restoration of the 10-bedroom Queen Anne Victorian home in 1974. Tickets for admission are sold next door at Forest’s Carriage House, another historic building moved to Heritage Square from its original location at First and Taylor streets. Guided tours happen every half hour, and last about half an hour.
